Ich bin Georg Salden

I am Georg Salden is a hybrid, interactive exhibition about Georg Salden and the history of teaching type and writing at the Folkwangschule für Gestaltung (Essen, Germany) starting in the 1950s. The exhibition is guided by the story of Georg Salden, renowned Folkwang graduate and successful type designer. Now 91, he is one of the most influential, productive and innovative German typeface artists of the 20th century. Numerous threads of the Folkwang history of the field of “design” come together in his person. His uncle and mentor Helmut Salden, who is known in the Netherlands as a renowned book and typeface designer, also studied at the Folkwangschule.

The digital exhibition from May 19 to June 19, 2022 was preceded by a symposium on May 05 and 06, 2022. Here, the lives and works of the protagonists were presented in lectures and panel discussions. The formats of the symposium were streamed as premieres during the digital exhibition opening on May 19 and 20, 2022.
